why they rain dance

Every year it was the same. On the first day the spring rains came, they would come. They would drive their cars to the green fields, and in their clothes, they would dance under, in, and with the rain. As I watched, I could feel their joy, but I did not understand why. I asked them, “Why do you dance when it rains?”
And one of them said to me, “When the rains do not come, the grass and trees do not grow. Our plants and crops do not grow. We have less water to drink, and less food to eat. Life is harder without the rain. And if the rain does not come for a long enough time, life dies. If life dies, we die. This is why when the rain comes, it is the birth again of life, so we welcome and celebrate the rain with our dance – it is a sign of our respect to the rain. The rain dances with the grass, the trees, and the land - for they have not seen each other for a long time. And this is why we too dance with the rain.”
